CURRENT:LA FOOD

About This Project

CURRENT:LA is the City of Los Angeles’ public art triennial which launched in 2016. As the triennial producers, Dyson & Womack oversaw the realization of the inaugural Los Angeles public art biennial in 2016 and second iteration of the citywide public art triennial CURRENT:LA FOOD in 2019 commissioning 30 temporary public artworks and over 250 public programs.

Los Angeles’ first public art biennial included 15 temporary public artworks and over 250 public programs. The inaugural biennials theme, water, highlighted an issue affecting Los Angeles and other global cities to inspire civic discourse and use contemporary art to deepen connections between communities and people across our city.

CURRENT:LA FOOD presented art projects by 15 national and international artists and teams of artists who took on the global issue of food to highlight and encouraged the discussion of topics such as: eliminating food deserts, supporting urban agriculture, improving food distribution systems, and strengthening food equity. Commissioning art installations, performances, and events in public parks, CURRENT:LA FOOD aimed to engage visitors in a discussion that a ects not only Los Angeles residents, but also the broader global community through the exploration of art.
