CURRENT:LA WATER

About This Project

CURRENT:LA is Los Angeles first public art triennial which launched in 2016. As the triennial producers, Dyson & Womack oversaw the realization of 15 temporary public artworks and over 250 public programs.

The inaugural triennials theme, water, highlighted an issue affecting Los Angeles and other global cities to inspire civic discourse and use contemporary art to deepen connections between communities and people across our city. The artwork and public programs were taken out of the museum environment and into LA’s diverse neighborhoods, with each project occurring on LA’s public lands and in city parks.  In conjunction with the CURRENT:LA Water triennial, our team conceived of, designed, and produced the triennial hub. As a visitor and volunteer center, the hub supported and enriched the triennial experience with a library, resource center, and our program of free public-engagement events, workshops, film screenings, talks, and panel discussions.  This citywide cultural event was an initiative of Mayor Eric Garcetti and the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.
